All Lions: Goff Proves 'No Voodoo' over Team
The Detroit Lions experienced plenty of success in 2023, breaking a stretch of 30 seasons without a division title. It had been even longer since their last playoff win, but the team strung two postseason victories together before losing in the NFC Championship.
A big reason why the team was able to experience that success was the effort of quarterback Jared Goff. The veteran passer led the team with a cool demeanor and surgical precision.
With the season over and the offseason on the horizon, Goff reflected on the experience of delivering playoff wins and a division title to a fanbase that had been long-starved for such achievements.
"Yeah, it's been great, and I've been in just such early stages of it. But, you know, you hear about all the stories of the last 30 years and all the heartbreak and all the close calls and all that stuff," Goff said in a recent interview with Complex. "And, it was always kind of my mission to eliminate those. There is no voodoo over the Lions. That doesn't exist. And, I think making that a reality for them is my goal. It's a lot of fun to play for a fanbase like that and to be in front of people who care so much."
At the center of his career resurgence has been the camaraderie he has built with Detroit's coaching staff.
Dan Campbell initially caught backlash for his proclamation that his team would bite kneecaps at his introductory press conference, but he has proven to be an excellent leader and exactly what the team needs.
His ability to motivate has helped carry the team from the depths of the division to near the top of the NFL.
"I think that he speaks from the heart so often, and sometimes just random things come out," Goff explained. "It's just who he is. And, in that press conference, that was what it was about. But, no, we don't have anything about kneecaps on the walls in the building."
