Hendon Hooker Loves Competitive Lions Coaching Staff

Rookie Hendon Hooker cannot wait to return to Detroit for training camp.

Rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker loves the competitive nature of the Detroit Lions' coaching staff.

"I love the Detroit staff," Hooker said, via the Knoxville News Sentinel. "They're very supportive. Always teaching and hungry to get better. There's a competitive aspect from every coach that we have. It's always a competition on the field. Offense, defense it's always going to be some chatter going back and forth, and I love that. I want be a part of something that's going to continue to progress to get better, and that's what we're trying to do. We're trying to win ballgames."

Back in Knoxville, Tenn., to host a youth football camp, Detroit's first of two 2023 third-round picks indicated his rehab from a torn ACL has been "progressing really well."

As Hooker explained, "I'm really just taking it day-by-day, and continuing to build my body back up to where I want it to be and even better."

The excitement level is building for the 25-year-old, as training camp is just around the corner.

Entering his rookie season in the NFL, the former Volunteers signal-caller is ready to learn from veterans Jared Goff and Nate Sudfeld, who are currently above him on the depth chart.

Hooker is not expected to play a significant amount in his debut campaign, but will have the opportunity to develop in a supportive environment working in Ben Johnson's offense.

Rookies are set to report to training camp, at the team's Allen Park practice facility, on July 19.
