Hendon Hooker to Start Career on NFI List
The Detroit Lions have reportedly made a decision regarding rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker.
According to NFL media, Detroit's 2023 third-round pick will begin the 2023 season on the non-football injury list.
All throughout training camp, the team has indicated that the ex-Volunteers quarterback would be brought along slowly, even describing his 2023 season as a "redshirt" year.
Despite being on the injured list early in his career, the plan is reportedly to activate the talented quarterback at some point in 2023, if he is healthy.
"A Lions source familiar with the thought process on Hooker said that is not in the Lions’ plans to sit him the entire season and emphasized Hooker is expected to join the roster once healthy," wrote Dave Birkett.
How many roster decisions to Lions have left?
Over the weekend, Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes have discussed the players on the roster who would make the team and those who could potentially be released.
At this point, the roster is close to being set, but there are still some decisions to make on a couple of players.
“It’s tough to say. We’re close, but we still have, there’s a number of moving pieces between here and looking out on the other 31 teams too, and where does that – is there a piece there that fits here? How does it, relative to what we already have here, so we’re close," said Campbell. "But we still have -- there’s a little bit of flux we have to go through here.”
