How Lions Can Clinch Playoff Berth Sunday
With a 42-17 win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday, the Detroit Lions are nearing their first playoff berth since 2016.
The Lions can punch their ticket to the postseason through three separate combinations of results Sunday. If those games don't go their way, the Lions can clinch if the Eagles defeat the Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
The Lions are also inching toward their first division title since 1993, which can officially be clinched with a win against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16. The Lions currently hold a three-game lead in the division, with three games to play.
By clinching the division, the Lions will be guaranteed at least one home playoff game at Ford Field.
The Vikings lost Saturday to the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime.
With the implications of the upcoming game, head coach Dan Campbell is embracing the pressure that comes with playing on the road, against a division rival, with a chance to clinch the division title.
"Yeah, look, man, this is about to be a tough environment. Going on the road, at Minnesota, they've got an outstanding defense," Campbell said. "They've changed a couple things up offensively, just watching crossover tape. So, this is not gonna be easy. Defending North champs from last year. But, man, we wouldn't have it any other way. Go out there on the road, tough environment, man, and we've got a chance to get the next one. So, man, we're gonna be looking forward to it. I know I am, and I know our guys will. So, we did what we needed to do today against a hot team, to get to 10 wins, and now we've got to find a way to get to 11."
Below are the three scenarios that can officially place the Lions in the postseason.
- A Rams loss and a Falcons loss.
- A Rams loss and a Buccaneers loss.
- A Falcons loss, a Rams loss and a Packers loss.
