Aidan Hutchinson Reacts to Michigan Investigation
Across the National Football League, former Michigan Wolverines players and their opponents who are now in the league have been asked about the sign-stealing investigation involving the Big Ten program.
Detroit Lions EDGE rusher Aidan Hutchinson was asked following practice Thursday for his reaction to the news that his alma mater is under investigation.
“They’re doing all their investigations. They’re coming at Michigan when Michigan has a shot to win the National Championship this year,” said Hutchinson. “I don’t know. It is what it is, I guess. Time will pass and people will forget about it and move on once we are the champs again.”
The second-year defender expressed he did not have any sort of relationship with Connor Stalions, who is allegedly responsible for the improper scouting of opponents' signs.
“I didn't have a relationship with him,” Hutchinson said of Stalions. “It's kind of just one of the coaches upstairs that you don't really ever see, you know? So, I don't think that any of the players really had a relationship with him ever.”
Similar to what several others have expressed, Hutchinson believes sign-stealing is rampant across college football.
“That's college football. People are always stealing signs in college football,” Hutchinson said. “So, people stole our signs, you know? Other Big Ten schools stole our signs. It's just a thing when you're in college football,” Hutchinson explained. “So, I mean, not any more than anybody else did, as far as I'm concerned.”
Michigan is currently undefeated, and has the potential to win the College Football Playoff. The Wolverines' dominance has been evident since the start of the season.
Hutchinson lightheartedly declined to elaborate if any of his teams could match up against the 2023 squad.
"That's a tough question. You know, I got a lot of pride from 2021. I think we laid the groundwork for what's going on right now," Hutchinson said. "I don't know. I can't. I'm not about to break the boys apart like this.”
