Jahmyr Gibbs Suffers Minor Ankle Injury, May Be Limited at Minicamp Practice
The Detroit Lions kicked off day two of rookie minicamp inside their Allen Park practice facility Saturday morning, and continued to sing the praises of their 2023 rookie class.
“We think we got the guys that fit what we do,” Lions assistant general manager Ray Agnew told reporters Saturday. “We love those gritty guys, obviously. You know the type of guys that we got. These guys are smart and passionate. They love the game.
“I’m a big believer in if you love the game, you’ve got a chance, you’ve got a chance to be a good football player. And, they love the game, they’re passionate about the game. So, we love all the guys that we got.”
The Lions added eight players via this past April’s NFL Draft, and acquired another 15 rookies via the undrafted free-agent market.
With each first-year pro, Agnew is looking closely at a couple of things during Saturday’s minicamp practice.
“You want to see their movement. You want to see if they’re smart, if they remember what they’re supposed to do,” Agnew expressed. “But, more than that, just the movement and what they’re supposed to do.”
As for who will not be taking the field during Saturday’s practice session, Agnew told reporters, “You may not see (Jahmyr) Gibbs today.”
Regarding the first-round pick out of Alabama (No. 12 overall), Agnew added, “He had a little (ankle) tweak. No big issue. He’ll be fine. We’re just being safe with him.”
