Jahmyr Gibbs Toasting LB Bobby Okereke Is Making Headlines

Jahmyr Gibbs put on a show at Lions training camp on Day 12.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was able to showcase, in front of another NFL team, why the front office valued him in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll noted prior to practice that the team did a lot of pre-draft scouting on several of the players the Lions ended up drafting, including Gibbs, who ended up being selected 12th overall in the draft.

Early at practice, Detroit's speedy running back used a quick stop-and-start move to blow past linebacker Bobby Okereke, who had no chance of keeping up with or catching the rookie.

"Jahmyr is just, what we’ve been able to put on his plate is probably the most shocking thing," teammate David Montgomery said, via 97.1 The Ticket. "We’re training him in every way that we can train him, multiple positions, and he’s handling it well. And, when he gets a chance to flash, he flashes."

Linebacker Alex Anazlone expressed following practice that he was quite relieved when he looked at the schedule and noticed the Giants were coming to town for practice. Anzalone admitted that trying to cover Detroit's first-round pick has been taxing.

"Not going against our offense was nice for once," said Anzalone. "Not having to cover Gibbs out of the backfield made my day a little less stressful. He’s twitchy, he’s fast, he’s got a dead-leg to him that can get you, and once he gets away from you and gets separation, it’s tough to recover."

Gibbs was a clear standout at practice on Day 12, making a name for himself in the pass game and the run game.

The ex-Crimson Tide back was a go-to target in the red zone, recording multiple touchdowns in the air and even running one into the end zone against a stout Giants defensive line.

Barry Sanders, who was present at the team's Allen Park facility, indicated he has also been impressed with the dual-threat back, through the first couple weeks of camp.
