Louis Riddick: Jahmyr Gibbs Will Be MVP Candidate in 2024
The Detroit Lions are starting to see the growth of rookie running back Jahmry Gibbs.
After getting acclimated to playing in the NFL in the first half of the season, Detroit's 2023 first round draft pick has emerged as a weapon in Ben Johnson's offense.
Against the Denver Broncos, Gibbs rushed for 100 yards on 11 carries and a receiving touchdown.
ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick, who previously served as the Philadelphia Eagles Director of Pro Personnel, could envision the speedy running back being an MVP candidate, as soon as next season.
Riddick posted on social media, "Jahmyr Gibbs gonna be a leading #MVP candidate in 2024 if you want to include non QB's in the discussion. He has every skill you could possibly want in a RB in today's game."
Dan Campbell took a moment after defeating the Broncos at Ford Field to praise general manager Brad Holmes for his willingness to draft a running back and a tight end early in the draft, despite obvious needs on defense.
"Gibbs is just getting better and better so I’m just going to bring it back to Brad Holmes, it’s a hell of a job by him, once again," said Campbell. "Took a lot of criticism for those two picks, but they look like they’re okay. So, I’m glad we got them.”
Jared Goff also praised Gibbs and LaPorta, stating they are two of the best rookies he has ever been around.
"They’re two of the best rookies I’ve ever been around," Goff said. "What they handle mentally and what they do every Sunday for us, the way they practice, the way they’re pros, everything. They’re as good as it gets and you see the results out here on the game day.
"But the work they put in, and how professional they both are, it’s really impressive. It really is and obviously Sam’s numbers have been pretty big this year and he deserves it. He’s playing really well."
