Look: Jameson Williams Training with Lions Teammates
The Detroit Lions have high expectations for wideout Jameson Williams.
After a rookie season spent mostly on the sidelines, the second-year wideout will have added responsibilities his second season in the NFL.
The coaching staff and front office wanted Williams to take accountability and be responsible for putting in the necessary work, as he will still have to compete for targets and playing time.
In social media posts, the talented wideout has been seen working out with teammates Maurice Alexander and Amon-Ra St. Brown in California this week.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson expressed the plan is for Williams to line up at multiple different wideout positions in Detroit's offense.
“We’ve had some great conversations with Jamo, even since the season ended,” Johnson explained. “I know his mind is going to be right when he gets back in there in the springtime. He’s really looking forward to taking that next step as a player and really make a big impact on this league.”
The team believes Williams has the capability of stretching the field and getting open coming out of the slot receiver position.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff expressed during the season that while it will take time to develop rapport with the 2022 No. 12 overall pick, he sees Williams as being one of the premier wideouts in the NFL.
“We’ll move him around. He’ll be all over the place for us. I know this, when you get speed in the slot, that’s very hard to defend for a defense," said Johnson. "So, there’ll be times we do that, there’ll be times he’s X. He’ll be Z, but there’s a lot he can do.”
