Acknowledge Me: Lions Jerry Jacobs Seeking Increased Recognition
Detroit Lions defensive back Jerry Jacobs might be feeling like the forgotten man, especially after the team added Cam Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley and C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the roster this offseason.
Detroit's secondary has struggled to gain traction under defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Following the conclusion of the 2022 season, the team decided to move on from Jeff Okudah and Amani Oruwariye, paving the way for new members of the roster to attempt to fulfill the vision of the coaching staff.
PFF recently posted a graphic which asked which asked NFL player has elevated productivity and talent, but a low amount of recognition.
The 25-year-old defensive back shared with his followers a message on social media that indicates he fits the PFF criteria as being a player with not enough recognition.
In AllLions' recent NFC North cornerback rankings, Jacobs did not make the list, which may end up proving writer Christian Booher wrong, given Jacobs' extremely high level of competitiveness.
Since he earned a roster spot and took the field in 2021, Jacobs has embodied what Glenn and the coaching staff have been looking for in their defensive backs.
"If you can’t tackle, you can’t play on this defense and both of them did that and Jerry Jacobs really showed up,” Dan Campbell said back in 2021. "He’s kind of a pit bull out there and he can cover one-on-one, but he’ll also come up and tackle you and hit you, and so that’s good.”
While Jacobs will be in competition to start opposite of Cam Sutton, he should see his fair share of playing time. He has the potential of continuing his development and excelling, being he is another year removed from a serious ACL injury he suffered against the Broncos back in 2021.
