Lions 2023 Roster Cutdown Tracker

The Lions must establish their 2023 53-man roster by Tuesday.
In this story:

The Detroit Lions' front office and coaching staff feel their roster talent has been upgraded drastically since the new regimen took over back in 2021.

Now entering 2023, general manager Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell are set to have a series of conversations regarding who should earn a spot on the 2023 roster.

Over the course of training camp, several players have emerged, especially on the defensive side of the football.

“I mean, I think this team’s ready," Campbell recently told WXYZ-TV. "Look, the number one goal period is to be better than we were last year. That’s the goal. Now, what does that mean? It just means we’ve got to be better. And I believe we have a team that will be suited to be better than we were last year. As far as all the outside noise and whatever is perceived as pressure, we’ll handle all that. All we’ve got to do is focus on our business and everything that’s in front of us right now.”

After the roster is trimmed down to the required 53-man players, the team will fully turn their attention to preparing for the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Excited, obviously, and I had mentioned this when it came out, that was one of the, I had this fingers crossed. What if we were able to get the opener on Thursday? And sure enough, we get it, and it’s with KC, which would make sense since they won the Super Bowl. And so we got that, so I’m excited. Yes you get a shot at the champ, and then you get 10 days to recover before you play Seattle at home.”
