Lions Open as 5.5-Point Favorite against Seahawks

The Lions have opened as betting favorites to beat the Seahawks.

The Detroit Lions have become one of the darlings and most talked about teams in the NFL.

And after beating the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs on Thursday night in the NFL opener, they now have even more people drinking the "Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid."

It was an impressive win for Dan Campbell's squad. The Lions didn't even play their best game, and still managed to pull out the 21-20 victory at Arrowhead Stadium.

With the win, Detroit has now won nine of its last 11 games (dating back to last season), and has positioned itself as one of the favorites to win the NFC North in 2023.

Next up for Campbell & Co. is a matchup with Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field. It marks the Lions' first home game of the '23 season.

Detroit and Seattle last squared off in Week 4 of the 2022 season. The Seahawks prevailed victorious, 48-45, in the shootout. Seattle's Geno Smith threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns, while Jared Goff passed for 378 yards and four scores.

A season ago, the Carroll-led squad went on to win nine games and capture a wild card spot in the NFC playoffs. The Seahawks lost to their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, in the wild card round of the playoffs.

Fast-forward to this season, and Seattle is 0-1, after dropping its season opener to Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, 30-13.

Going into the Lions' Week 2 contest with the Seahawks, SI Sportsbook has Campbell's team as the favorite (-5.5). It comes with little surprise that Detroit is favored to win the game, factoring in the Lions' victory over the Chiefs in Week 1 and the Seahawks' disappointing loss at home to the Rams Sunday.

It will be interesting to see, however, if the line changes and increases in favor of Detroit as the week progresses. I believe that it will ever so slightly as the game draws nearer.

Kickoff between the Seahawks and the Lions is set for next Sunday (Sept. 17) at 1 p.m. EST.
