Lions Betting Favorite to Land Chase Young

Could Chase Young aid Detroit Lions' defense in 2023?
In this story:

The Detroit Lions are currently the betting favorite to land Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young, should he not return to the team that made him the No. 2 overall pick in 2020.

Detroit's talent level has certainly improved over the course of head coach Dan Campbell's tenure.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes has revamped the secondary, but question marks still remain along the defensive line.

“Yeah, well, we’re a lot farther along than two years ago for sure. We feel like now we’ve got some significant depth in just about all areas, which creates competition," Campbell said this week at minicamp. "I really feel like the biggest area where you really see it is the secondary. And, that’s without (Emmanuel) Moseley right now being out there. But, once we get him back and he’s healthy, and obviously getting Tracy (Walker) back, I just feel like that’s a big transformation right there, with depth and competition and all those things. We’re a lot farther ahead than where we were.”

The interior of the defensive line is among the biggest question marks that remain.

Also, can James Houston replicate what he accomplished his rookie campaign?

If Young is healthy, playing opposite of Aidan Hutchinson would be appealing to defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who is working to improve the execution and consistency of a defense that struggled early last season.

Campbell indicated that Glenn is striving for the defense to become a top-tier unit in the NFL.

Adding a player with upside could be the addition needed to take Detroit's defense to the next level.
