Lions Campbell Explains Aggressiveness, Goff Amazed by Fan Support
Here is a collection of what was said by the Detroit Lions postgame after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers, 41-38, at SoFi Stadium.
Dan Campbell
On going for it on fourth down: “Yeah, I wanted to finish with the ball. I trust our guys, I trust Goff. Going into that situation, if you don’t (get it), there’s gonna be a lot of time left, you kick a field goal. So I wanted to finish with the ball in our hands. I liked where we were at offensively. We were playing good, Goff was in a good spot and I felt like that was the right thing to do. To each his own. Some say it’s a boneheaded move, some say it’s not. I made the decision and I stick by that decision.”
Amon-Ra St. Brown
What the Lions is like when everyone is healthy: “We’ve got some weapons when everyone’s healthy. That touchdown Jamo had, got called back, if we get that one in it might’ve been a different game. Just to start the game, because that was a big play for us. But everyone being healthy is huge for us because everyone can’t make a play every play. The same player can’t make the play.
"When you have all these weapons, it just takes a load off me, off guys, off Jared, off LaPorta, off David, Jahmyr. Any time someone can make a play, even on that one that David had, that 75-yard touchdown. We were in the wrong personnel, it was supposed to be 12 and we were in 11. Called the play and I was like, 'I don’t know what I’m doing on this play, I’m not supposed to be in.' So I look at Jared, he checks it, he’s like, ‘Let’s just check it to a run, everyone relax.’ He checks it and David goes for 75 yards. It just shows you the ability that we have as an offense. We can explode at any point and that’s what, I think, that’s why I’m so excited to be a part of this team. There’s guys on every level that can make plays.”
Lions Grades: Offense Near Flawless, Defense Does Not Measure Up
Jared Goff
On Lions fans support: “When I was walking off the field today I kind of had those thoughts. Our crowd, how loud they were, had to give them some love at the end of the game there. They’re still cheering us on as we’re walking off the field. I’ve never played for a crowd like this and they travel and they’re great at home obviously. I’ve never experienced that and it’s pretty incredible. Being able to be a part of it as the quarterback is pretty fun.”
David Montgomery
On his 75-yard touchdown run: “It was a good run. It wouldn’t have been anything without the O-line and the wide receivers. Definitely, I want to highlight Jamo. That’s the second time this year I’ve been running and Jamo’s been there to lead the way. That take a lot from him, too, for him to be who he is and be able to run and go block for me.
"I was running as fast as I was and he was jogging and he still beat me. I’m a little hurt about that. But I’ll suppress those feelings for later. Yeah, it was close to stepping out. I started praying again. But luckily it worked out and he answered my prayers.”
