Lions Don't Want Jameson Williams Flying through Air

Lions receivers coach comments on Jameson Williams' touchdown.

The photo of Detroit Lions Jameson Williams flying into the end zone against the New Orleans Saints certainly highlights the athleticism of a young player that is emerging in the offense.

Detroit's second-year wideout has a habit of launching himself into the end zone when he has an opportunity to score.

Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El appeared on SB Nation's charity video stream Tuesday morning, and commented on the former No. 12 overall pick soaring into the end zone.

A few supporters online commented that Williams should avoid launching himself, in order to avoid getting injured.

Randle El pointed out that beyond the risk of getting injured, Williams is not following what is taught in regards to ball security.

"Not even a shoulder. Like forget his shoulder. We want to make sure we had the ball at the end of the play," said Randle El. "If he jumps and this ball, for whatever reason, it slips out of his hand and goes to the back of the end zone, man, we're done. We're toast. Touchback, their ball. So, ball security is what we preach. So, he knows that he is not supposed to be doing that. I love the athleticism. I love you want to be airborn and look like a plane. That's great."

Since his return from suspension, Williams has been even more of a student of the game, which has contributed to the coaching staff giving him more opportunities weekly.

"You can see more attention to detail, what I need to be doing. And, not just what I need to be doing, but, man, what's going on on the backside and understanding the whole concept," Randle El explained. "He's really turned the page from that standpoint, in terms of moving forward, and has gotten a whole lot better in that regard.
