Lions Fans Nervous Brad Holmes Will Stand Pat at Trade Deadline
The Detroit Lions may not want to upset the applecart, especially after starting the 2023 season with a 5-2 record.
Supporters of the Lions are expecting general manager Brad Holmes to add several players to the roster, as the trade deadline is fast approaching.
The Philadelphia Eagles already improved their defense, as they traded for Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard.
Appearing on 97.1 The Ticket, Lions head coach Dan Campbell discussed the delicate balance an organization must take when deciding to trade for other players.
Detroit's third-year head coach seemed to imply that the chemistry in the locker room has been quite solid, and messing with the vibe could have a detrimental impact on a team.
“There’s nothing easy about that, if it comes to that. It’s not, but I think what you do is you start by addressing captains and you let them know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it," said Campbell. "And then, you’ve got to let the team know. They’ve also got to know that there’s nothing personal about it and it’s the hard side of this business.
"I also would say this, this is where Brad (Holmes) and I are really tied at the hip. He understands, first of all, the value’s got to be right. It’s gotta be something we feel like helps us, fits us. But, it also can’t be something that’s gonna mess with what we’ve got going on here. He’s mindful of that, and I appreciate that about him. He knows what I’m talking about, what we’re about, and we’re not gonna mess with the vibe of this team. If I really felt that way, there’s no talent that’s worth that.”
Supporters have interpreted these comments as meaning the team will not make an impactful trade.
Here is a sample of the reaction to Campbell's comments about the trade deadline.
