Lions Social Media, Fans Dunk on Jameson Williams 'NFL Rumors' Post

It is not a surprise that Antwaan Randle El is mentoring Jameson Williams.

The social media page of the Detroit Lions and supporters were left scratching their head when a recent post surfaced from the @nflrums Twitter account.

Known for aggregating NFL news and putting their own unique spin on information, the site thought that Antwaan Randle El mentoring wideout Jameson Williams was a  significant development.

Fans were confused, as Randle El is the current wide receivers coach of the 2022 No. 12 overall pick.

It is naturally expected that a position coach will develop a solid working relationship with a young player, including discussing life in the league, how to succeed away from the field and checking in to make sure a player is adapting well to the challenges of learning a complicated offensive scheme.

In fact, Lions head coach Dan Campbell noted the organization has a solid team of professionals whose role it is to enhance the personal development of inexperienced NFL players, not just the former Crimson Tide wideout.

Campbell noted, "We’ve got a number of people that are constantly in contact with him, and it’s just about -- you’re giving him the information, you’re trying to teach and there again, it’s not just him. We’re doing it with all the young players. We do it with all the rookies, all the second-year players.

"So, I just think it’s, for us, we’re a united front, but we’re here to help," Campbell continued. "But, we’re also not here to hold your hand. We’re here to help you along the way. And so, that’s really what and why we designed everything we did.”

Fans took to social media to point out how silly the post was, given it did not point out Randle El's role with the Lions

Here is a sample of the reaction online to the less-than-newsworthy post about Williams being mentored.
