Lions Fighting for Home-Field Advantage Throughout Playoffs

Lions can earn No. 1 seed in NFC.

The Detroit Lions have a legitimate opportunity to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC when the season concludes.

With a remaining schedule that is considered not as challenging as other teams in the league will face, the Lions' roster has an opportunity to host multiple playoff games at Ford Field.

"Last year we started off 1-6 and now to start off 5-1 is huge for us," wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown explained Sunday. "We put so much focus into each week and so much preparation. And to come out with a victory feels really good.

"But we know, man, we have bigger goals ahead of us. We want to keep doing what we’re doing, we want to get to the playoffs, we want to have home-field advantage for the playoffs. There’s so many things that we want to accomplish this year, but man, this is just a start for us. We gotta keep going."

Why Ravens Need To Worry about Alex Anzalone

Dan Campbell indicated during his weekly radio interview that winning the division can set the team up for success, given that is the initial starting point to having success in the postseason.

"Those are things that we talked about before this season started," said Campbell. "We've got these -- we have our own standards and goals that we talk about and very much is about winning this division. Because if you do that, you're going to get a home game and then you go from there. To me it's easy to say, 'Hey, you want to win a Super Bowl.' It's all about seeding and it's all about winning your division. You start with a home game and then you go from there, because once you're in the tournament, man, I've seen it too many times. Now it's all about the matchups. It's all about timing. It's all, it's everything. So the goal is to win this division. ..."

Trust in top receiver

Veteran quarterback Jared Goff understands who he can trust in the receiving corps.

Even when the opposition is aware of who is going to be targeted in key situations, like on third-down, stopping St. Brown from executing is no easy feat.

“I just trust the hell out of him. And he’s earned it. That’s really the best answer for ya. He’s one of the best players in the league at his position. We’re lucky to have him. And he keeps making plays like that. It’s fun to play with. I can throw with anticipation to him. I trust him to make the catch in traffic," Goff told reporters after defeating the Buccaneers. "Late in the game, those third downs there to kind of run some clock off, it’s huge. They know we’re throwing it. They know it’s probably going to him. And he still gets himself open and it’s a lot of fun."
