Report: Detroit Lions 'Had Talks' with Jared Goff About Future
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is likely in line this offseason for a massive new contract.
Goff, 29, is leading a 7-2 team to what is certain to be a playoff berth.
Undoubtably, the veteran signal-caller's contract is currently below market value.
According to ESPN, Detroit's front office will up their efforts following the conclusion of the 2023 season to secure Goff into a long-term contract extension.
"One team-quarterback marriage to watch is Jared Goff and the Lions," writes Jeremy Fowler. "Goff is putting together another Pro Bowl performance for the 7-2 Lions, and 2024 is his last year under contract (at $26.65 million, well below his market value)."
While no contract extension is likely to be agreed upon during the season, the front office is aware Goff is due a hefty raise.

"Goff and the Lions have had talks about the future, but no deal is in the works during the season," Fowler explains. "In the offseason, however, the Lions will likely up their efforts to secure Goff's long-term future. He's only 29, and the Lions know asking Goff to play the final year of his current deal is untenable."
With the Minnesota Vikings currently on a winning streak, Goff and the Lions are definitely feeling like they are in a close divisional race.
"Yeah, it always will be and they’re a good team," Goff said, when asked about the Vikings winning streak. "And again, Chicago is, I think, a good team and so is Green Bay. So, we’ve got our hands full with all three of those teams and this is another one for us to hopefully get a W with.”
