Lions Injury Updates: Jameson Williams, C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided injury updates on safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and wide receiver Jameson Williams during his Day 3 media session Tuesday morning.
Both players appeared to suffer injuries in Monday's practice. Gardner-Johnson was carted off, while Williams was observed limping after an end-around and didn't finish the session.
In the case of the veteran safety, his apparent injury garnered national attention and concern. Many feared the worst when he went down, so an MRI that showed no structural damage allowed fans to breathe a sigh of relief.
"It appears to me that he's gonna be okay," Campbell said of Gardner-Johnson. "Doesn't appear to be anything serious. We'll see, the images look pretty good. He might be out a day or two, but seems to be okay."
Williams will not practice for a day or two, according to the head coach.
Campbell indicated he didn't believe it was a significant injury to his leg.
Both players are expected to be important parts of the Lions' success in 2023. Williams' impact will be limited to start, as he must serve a six-game suspension at the start of the season.
Gardner-Johnson's ability to create turnovers were highly coveted by the Lions. His versatility to play all over the secondary will make him a key piece of the defensive scheme.
Williams, meanwhile, missed the first 10 games of last season, but treated fans to a taste of his potential with a pair of 40-yard plays.
The speedy wideout can emerge as a game-changer in Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson's scheme.
