Lions' Jalen Reeves-Maybin Earns Two-Year Extension
The Detroit Lions have made Jalen Reeves-Maybin the highest-paid core special teams player ever.
According to the NFL Network, Reeves-Maybin has secured a two-year, $7.5 million extension.
The talented special teams contributor was set to become a free agent, but will remain in Motown, having secured a $2.5 million signing bonus and guarantees of $5.245 million.
"He's a core player. He's our captain. He's a productive player. He's smart. He's a team guy and he's versatile, and he can play defense," Lions coach Dan Campbell said of Reeves-Maybin in early December.
Last offseason, Reeves-Maybin was brought back on a one-year deal, and was named a special teams captain.
The 29-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Houston Texans, prior to returning for a second stint in Detroit.
Against Kansas City in the opener, Reeves-Maybin converted a fake punt.
When needed in spot duties, the veteran also made plays at the linebacker spot, showing his versatility and reliability.
"He's crafty. We watch him every day in practice, in games, we watch him in one-on-ones in coverage and rush, and he's a ball guy. He finds ways to get a ball out," Campbell explained. "We have a ton of faith in him."
