The Detroit Lions secondary does not simply want to make small improvements in 2023.

Aaron Glenn's secondary was overhauled this offseason, giving players like cornerback Jerry Jacobs increased confidence the unit will perform at a very high level this upcoming season.

Jacobs told Good Morning Football, "We got guys like Cam Sutton, C.J. (Gardner-Johnson). Them veteran guys, they've been in the room these OTAs and minicamp and they're helping us out a lot with just learning the scheme and playing in the NFL and making the defense better. Cam Sutton has been in the league for seven years, so getting every knowledge from him. Emmanuel Moseley, he's coming back from an injury, but he's still in there 24/7."

Having Tracy Walker return, who continues to demonstrate progress in his recovery in social media posts, will aid the safeties unit continue their efforts to support the cornerbacks on the front end.

The addition of the former Eagles defensive back has sparked increased confidence in the entire defense.  The 2022 interception leader brings a high level of competitiveness and fire to each and every practice.

"Chauncey, man. Chauncey, he's gonna make the game more fun," Jacobs said. "I love his enthusiasm. I love the way he comes out there and talks trash. That just turns us up. Man, the guys that we added this offseason, I think that we're going to be pretty dominant in the back end."

Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn believes Detroit's current defensive roster can play defense the way he and the coaching staff envisioned when they first came to Detroit back in 2021.

"Man, I’m looking for us to be aggressive, be smart, be tough, play football like it should be played," Glenn said. "This is going to be fun. It’s going to be fun. It already is fun these OTAs just watching the guys go out there and move around.”
