Kevin Zeitler Reacts to Viral Video, Addresses Role with Lions
The Detroit Lions targeted veteran offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler early in the free agency process.
Even though an agreement was not quickly reached, the veteran expressed to local reporters in a video conference he is looking forward to joining a successful team that has so much talent along the offensive line.
"Lions reached out right away in free agency made it known they wanted me to be here right away," Zeitler said. "It took a little longer than we thought it would, but I'm glad to be here. It all worked out. It's really exciting meeting everyone today, and I definitely made the right decision."
Playing for the Ravens last season, the 34-year-old observed Detroit's stout offense during his extensive film review.
"Luckily we had a lot of cross film last year -- just with Lions and the Ravens and stuff and NFC games and all that," Zeitler explained. "Being able to see them on film and watch them on TV, it was like, 'Okay, they like to run the ball. They are taking over games. It's all great stuff.' I'm honored the team wanted me to be a part of that. And my only goal is to make sure I come in here, work my butt off, and make sure I keep being a part of that standard that's been set here."
It is the veteran's understanding he will play at right guard in Detroit, a position he has extensively played throughout his career.
Viral video in hospital
NFL analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin shared a video of Zeitler performing pass blocking sets even while his wife was in labor.
Zeitler indicated he found it funny the video went viral, since it was recorded two years ago by his wife when he was not looking.
"Two years ago when my wife was in labor with our second daughter and we were there. It was early in the process, nothing crazy happening yet, but we've been sitting around for a while, so anyone who knows me knows I'll pass set anywhere, anytime," Zeitler said. "And, I started doing it in there, and she thought it was funny."

Playing alongside Frank Ragnow and Penei Sewell has the potential to be rewarding for any player, especially a long-time NFL veteran.
"It's awesome. You always want to play with great players, and obviously you can't go get much better than those two," said Zeitler "So, going to insert myself and I'm going to do whatever I can to raise my level to make sure we get our job done on the right side."
