Lions Not Getting New Uniforms in 2023
The Detroit Lions will not be getting new uniforms for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
"There will not be new uniforms in 2023," team president Rod Wood said, via the Free Press. "I know people get over their skis on that. It takes really two years to really get it going, so (chief communications and brand officer) Brian (Facchini) and a team have been kind of working with Nike, looking at uniforms that will probably be for 2024. It could be an interesting overhaul of the uniforms. We will have a new alternative helmet though this year. We didn’t do that (in 2022)."
Despite the team not having a new uniform for 2023, the team will work to unveil a new alternate helmet.
In 2022, 13 teams took the opportunity to feature a different helmet worn with alternate jerseys.
The Lions' alternative helmet will be worn when the team dons its gray jerseys and pants.
"We’re not going to the Portsmouth colors," Wood said. "No, it’ll still be within the blues and the grays. I think it’s too early to say exactly, but I would describe it at least initially as probably being more change than the last time we did it, because I think those were more subtle changes."
Teams are allowed to change their uniforms only once every five seasons.
