Lions Release LS Jake McQuaide, Waive WR Tom Kennedy, Sign OL Bobby Hart
The Detroit Lions announced a series of roster moves ahead of their first preseason game against the New York Giants.
Wide receiver Tom Kennedy, who has become a favorite among supporters, was waived with an injury settlement.
Long-snapper Jake McQuaide, who was in competition with Scott Daly, apparently did not showcase enough to warrant continue battling Scott Daly for the long-snapper job.
"Obviously, I love having McQuaide here. I mean this guy’s a high- caliber player, played in the Pro Bowl, been a great snapper his whole career," said Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp last week. "He’s been a guy who I’ve watched on film, just in terms of protection and being an example when I was in Philadelphia with (long-snapper) Rick Lovato, being an example of how to protect on punt. He’s obviously coming off a tricep injury, and so he’s been working through that. He’s been healthy since he’s been here, but anyways, we’re obviously thrilled to have him. He’s just a total pro, and I have a ton of respect for him. And, the competition is going great. Both of these guys are at a high level right now, so we’re excited about it.”
Also, offensive lineman Bobby Hart was signed.
The 28-year-old was drafted by the New York Giants in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft, after playing collegiately at Florida State.
After three years, Hart was released by New York, and found his way to the Cincinnati Bengals. He started with the Bengals for three years, before being released following the conclusion of the 2020 season.
Hart has also had stints with the Dolphins, the Titans and the Bills.
