With Sunday’s loss, the Detroit Lions will pick 29th in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The event is set to take place April 25-27 in Detroit, marking the first time that the city has every hosted the Draft.

The 2023 season came to a disappointing end for the organization. After building a 24-7 lead in the first half, the Lions were outscored 27-7 in the final two quarters and ultimately suffered a 34-31 defeat that denied them a chance to go to the Super Bowl.

In all, it was a historic campaign for the franchise. Under the direction of general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell, the Lions broke a number of long streaks.

They won a division title for the first time since 1993, won a playoff game for the first time since 1991 and won two playoff games for the first time ever. Sunday marked just the second time the Lions had ever played in the NFC Championship.

At first glance, the team could target the defensive side of the ball early in the Draft. However, Holmes has proven to be unpredictable on Draft night in years past.

Detroit's third-year GM was named the PFWA's Executive of the Year this season. He was particularly successful in the Draft, as each of his first four picks wound up being impact players as rookies.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta are both finalists for Offensive Rookie of the Year, while linebacker Jack Campbell and Brian Branch were both starters on defense.

The upcoming draft will offer another opportunity for the organization to add key players to their roster.
