Lions Release K Michael Badgley
The Detroit Lions, who were sitting with 92 players on the active roster, have made a decision regarding their placekicker.
According to NFL Network, the team has decided to part ways with kicker Michael Badgley.
New kicker Parker Romo acclimated himself well when the team brought him in, showcasing a booming foot during the portion of OTA practices that were open to the media and local reporters.
“The additional year of eligibility was a blessing for me,” Romo explained about his extra year of college eligibility, granted due to the pandemic, via The Gridiron Crew. “It allowed me to be the field goal and kickoff starter from the beginning of the season to the end. It was my only season to show my capabilities as the starting kicker. I didn’t have the start to the season that I had hoped for, but I am grateful for my coaches and teammates by continuing to believe in me and finishing the season as an All-ACC kicker.”
Badgley went 24-for-28 on field goal attempts and even earned Special Teams Player of the Week after in Detroit's Week 13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.
The battle will now come down to Romo and Riley Patterson, who returned to Detroit after a stint with the Jaguars.
Currently, the Lions have 91 players on their roster.
