Lions to Sign Defensive Backs Emmanuel Mosely, Will Harris
The Detroit Lions have reportedly reached agreements with two cornerbacks, 24 hours after signing free-agent cornerback Cameron Sutton.
According to ESPN, former 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has reached an agreement with the Lions on a one-year, $6 million contract.
Prior to tearing his ACL in October, the 26-year-old was trending towards a career year with the NFC West powerhouse.
Will Harris, who was drafted by the Lions in the third round of the 2019 draft, is expected to receive a one-year extension, according to the Detroit Free Press.
In 15 games played last season, Harris recorded 57 tackles, four passes defensed and one forced fumble.
Out of 64 qualifying safeties playing at least 50 percent of defensive snaps, the 27-year-old ranked 37th, earning a PFF grade of 65.1
Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn expressed at the Scouting Combine the team would do its due diligence in its efforts to add more defensive backs to the roster, whether in the draft or via free agency.
“It’s just what I believe in, because you can never have enough of those guys. You can never have enough guys that are stout and can play the run. You can never have enough guys that can get after the passer. You can never have enough guys that can cover elite receivers. We all understand how this league is going now," said Glenn. "We have to do everything we can to continue to add and upgrade. And, every team does that. And, that’s not a bad thing to say. I don’t care who you got. You are always trying to upgrade your team, someway, somehow. And, I know for a fact that’s Dan (Campbell) and Brad’s (Holmes) mentality. It’s all about upgrading.”
