Lions to Play Packers on Thanksgiving
The Detroit Lions will face the Green Bay Packers for the annual Thanksgiving Day Classic at Ford Field.
After it was reported that the Lions will open their 2023 campaign against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, the team will again find itself in primetime a couple of weeks later.
Detroit's first matchup against the Packers will occur at Lambeau Field in Week 4 on Thursday Night Football.
The Lions last defeated the Packers on Thanksgiving back in 2013, 40-10, in front of the home crowd at Ford Field.
Detroit's divisional rival has undergone a significant change at quarterback, as Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets.
Now that the Packers have moved on from Rodgers, their starter under center for the last 15 years, the Packers will now turn to Jordan Love to lead the revamped offense.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell indicated on the "Green Light" podcast that the remaining members of the Lions' roster will not forget the struggles experienced in the early portion of the 2022 season.
"We talk about hard times, man. We were trying to fight our way out of everything. But, the guys never, they never quit swinging," said Campbell. "And, that's a credit to them. That's part of who they are. And, we can never lose that, you know. And, we can never forget where we were at, even last year. Man, 1-6, you know, you're counted out.
"Times are tough. It's not good. But, the guys never gave in," Campbell continued. "They just kept going. So, that's got to stay part of us. Now that 8-2 stretch, that winning stretch -- if we don't go back and get back to where we were and all the little things we did and the work that we put in, the detail that we put in to get back to that and then surpass it, then we'll never be better than we were. We'll have another nine-win season. We'll be average. And so, we have to get to that point and then surpass it, to get to where we want to go."
