Report: Lions Trading for WR Denzel Mims
The Detroit Lions have added a new wide receiver before training camp.
According to NFL reporter Josina Anderson, the Lions and Jets had "exploratory trade talks" regarding New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims Wednesday evening.
Reportedly, the Lions will send a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for the wideout and a 2025 seventh-round selection.
Mims is reportedly open to the possibility of joining the Lions, as "there's some energy to it."
All Lions discussed the pros and cons of adding the former second-round pick, as Ben Johnson's offense will be without Jameson Williams to start the 2023 season.
Prior to acquiring Mims, Detroit's offense, while featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown, lacked a big-play threat at the wide receiver position with Williams' absence.
Mims should be able to come in and provide a serious level of competition for Antoine Green, Kalif Raymond and Marvin Jones, who will all be vying for receptions this season.
When Mims was conducting workouts prior to the 2020 NFL Draft, the Rams were very intrigued by his skill set.
Detroit's general manager, Brad Holmes, was the Los Angeles Rams' director of college scouting at the time, and likely had the talented wideout rated highly.
Once Mims was made available, Detroit did not hesitate to take advantage. Several AFC teams were also reportedly interested in adding the 6-foot-3, 207-pound wideout.
