Updated NFC North Standings Sees Lions Close to Division Title
The Detroit Lions magic number to win the NFC North for the first time since the 1993 season.
Detroit has two matchups remaining with the Vikings to close out the regular season.
If Detroit is able to secure just one more victory in their next three games or the Vikings lose one more game, the team will claim the NFC North in Dan Campbell's third-year at the helm.
Quarterback Jared Goff expressed to reporters after defeating the Broncos the team has been hoping for a chance to play a home playoff game in front of their passionate fans all season.
"It's been all year," said Goff. "You’ve been kind of hoping for that all year that you can get one in front of the home fans and we still have games to win for us, but it would be a lot of fun and they’ve been bringing it every home game and yeah, it would be fun, but we’ve got some work to do.”
Campbell and his young roster played one of their best games of the season at a critical time, as the coaching staff has been emphasizing playing their best football in December.
"That was a hot team. That was one of the hottest teams in the NFL coming in which I was not surprised by knowing Coach (Sean) Payton and what he’s done with them over there," said Campbell. "Obviously, I can’t say enough great things about coach, and they’re in good hands over there, they’re in good hands. That team plays hard and they play smart football and we needed to do what we needed to do today and I was proud of our guys.”
