Lions Waive Jason Cabinda, Sign Michael Badgley to Active Roster
The Detroit Lions announced a series of roster moves, one day ahead of their Week 17 road contest against the Dallas Cowboys.
Fullback Jason Cabinda has been waived, while kicker Michael Badgley, who was on the practice squad, has been officially signed to the 53-man active roster. Cabinda was waived one day after being activated from injured reserve.
The Lions still have one open spot on their active roster.
Also, the team announced a pair of practice squad moves. Defensive lineman Chris Smith was released, and offensive lineman Michael Schofield was brought back after being previously let go.
Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp was asked last week if Badgley taking over for Riley Patterson stemmed from his comfort working with Detroit's current starting kicker last season.
"I feel very comfortable in Badgley," Fipp said. "The one thing I love about him is he swings – he’s going to swing at the ball the exact same way every single time. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 53-yarder or if it’s whatever, 22-yarder, he’s going to approach the ball the same way every single time. And, he’s very consistent, and mentally, he really doesn’t waver. Make, miss, he knows that he’s going to miss some. We all do, obviously, we hope not very many. But, he’s very flat line.”
