Lions' Week 17 Wednesday Injury Report
Heading into a key matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, the Detroit Lions are within striking distance of the top playoff seeds in the NFC.
Health has been paramount for the team this season, particularly on the offensive line. When the Lions' offensive line is fully healthy, the offense has functioned at a very high level.
Most recently, running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for 135 yards on the ground behind a healthy line against Minnesota. The offensive line performed strongly against a tough Vikings defense.
Gibbs was a focal point for the Lions' offense in Week 16, and got the bulk of the third-quarter snaps. Montgomery would return to the game in the fourth quarter, with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson attempting to balance the reps in the backfield.
"It was really just kind of how it went. I really don't have a great reason for you, to be honest," Johnson explained. "We were kind of moving along, and (running backs) coach (Scottie) Montgomery was like, 'This is gonna be Gibby's series, this is gonna be Gibby's series.' That's kind of how we came out of it. I don't know if the reps were skewed in the first half, to where we just wanted to even it up in the second half. A short week, so we didn't really revisit that in depth here this week."
Three offensive linemen appeared on the Lions' injury report, including tackles Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell, along with center Frank Ragnow.
Decker was a non-participant during Wednesday's practice, along with tight end Brock Wright. Jerry Jacobs, meanwhile, was a full participant.
