David Montgomery: 'Me and Jah Will Be Electric Together'
The Detroit Lions made a difficult decision to revamp the running backs room, even after Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift were able to have success in Ben Johnson's offense.
Swift, a former second-round pick, was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Williams signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints.
Free agent David Montgomery signed with the Lions after starting his career with the Chicago Bears and Jahmyr Gibbs was selected in the first-round of the 2023 draft.
Detroit's veteran running back believes opposing defenses will find it challenging to manage what he and Gibbs can bring to an offense.
“I think me and Jah will be electric together,” Montgomery said, via the Detroit Free Press. “He’s already like an electric player. I don’t mind going in there and getting the (tough) yards, but I see myself as a large asset as well. So putting us two together and defenses having to prepare for the both of us, that’ll be hard to do.”
In a short period of time, the 26-year-old has felt the buzz that has permeated a rabid fanbase that is eager to win, especially this upcoming season.
Montgomery noted, "You can feel the energy in the aura with us not even being in season yet and still being in preseason."
Montgomery's childhood experiences has allowed him to appreciate the gritty, hard-working nature of Detroit's fanbase.
"I enjoy being in a place where just it's like that. It makes me be more excited about what's to come. When you got a whole group of people around you and the City is behind you -- kind of know the kind of work that they put in on a daily basis , the least you can do is go out there and give everything you got. Bring them back a ring. Bring back the Lombardi."
