Montgomery, Joseph, Decker Game Status Uncertain
The Detroit Lions are preparing to play Sunday without cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai, according to coach Dan Campbell.
Moseley will miss his third consecutive game as he continues to recover from a knee injury suffered last season.
Vaitai wasn't placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury Sunday. His status is in doubt for Week 3, but the Lions are optimistic that he will return before the four-week IR window.
"I don't feel good about him for this game, but he's improved significantly since last game," Campbell said. "We won't know, it's just a matter of how quickly he recovers but he is improving. I can't really give you a window yet."
The Lions have had a plethora of players listed on their injury report throughout the week, including David Montgomery, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kerby Joseph. Campbell was non-committal on those players' statuses but indicated that some may take part in walkthroughs.
"All of those guys are improving and so much of it is gonna be what does it look like today?" Campbell stated. "We're gonna continue to work, get those guys to the side. Some of those guys are doing walkthrough, jog-through portion. So we'll know a lot more after this morning."
St. Brown missed practice Wednesday but returned on Thursday. The Lions are optimistic about having him moving into Sunday.
"Good, he looked good. He looked real good," Campbell explained. "Felt good, moved well, so (we) feel pretty good."
The Lions also have a roster spot open on their 53-man. Heading into Sunday's game, the Lions are planning to keep it open and make a decision leading up to kickoff.
"That's the plan, right now," Campbell said. "Just gives us a little flexibility here."
Notes
1.) With the potential of David Montgomery not playing Sunday, plenty has been made about Jahmyr Gibbs' potential to be the team's lead back. Detroit's third-year coach expressed confidence in the rookie, stating he's not a fragile runner.
2.) Defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs is expected to be activated for the first time this season after spending the first two weeks as a healthy scratch. Campbell wouldn't divulge whether the lineman would play, but added that he's going to get an opportunity moving forward.
