NFL Levies Massive Fine against Amon-Ra St. Brown

Lions receiver is lighter in the wallet.
In this story:

The National Football League has been cracking down on players lowering their helmets to initiate contact with opposing players.

Over the past few seasons, significant fines have been handled out to players in an effort to improve player safety.

Detroit’s talented third-year wideout, Amon-Ra St. Brown, has been fined by the league for a block against the Chicago Bears.

Detroit’s star wideout will be docked $43,709 for a block deemed too aggressive against a Bears defensive back.

Initially, the contact does not appear harmful.

Detroit’s wide receivers have never been shy to initiate contact against opposing defenders.

In scouting players, Detroit’s front office values players that are physical and are fundamentally sound in several aspects of their game.

In fact, players on the Lions are rewarded with increased targets and opportunities when they show aggressiveness blocking.

Supporters took to social media to complain about the fine, as the play appeared quite routine and nobody was harmed.

The league is clearly sending a message with these fines that lowering a helmet or targeting an opponents head will be deemed punishable.

St. Brown is having another stellar season and is among the most respected members of the roster.

Each week, St. Brown earns a little more than $52,000, so the fine is a large portion of his pay this week.
