Odds Lions Beat Seahawks in Week 2

Read more on the odds of the Lions beating the Seahawks.
In this story:

On Sunday, the Lions will open up the home portion of their 2023 campaign against Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks.

Detroit is coming off a 21-20 upset victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL opener. Meanwhile, Seattle comes into this matchup 0-1, after dropping its home opener to Matthew Stafford and the L.A. Rams Sunday.

The Lions pulled off an impressive win in their season-opening tilt. They beat the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs – and on the road at Arrowhead Stadium – without playing their best brand of football.

As for Seattle, it suffered the definition of a disappointing loss, allowing 30 points in front of its fans at Lumen Field. It marked the worst home defeat for Carroll's team in six years.

In the contest, the Seahawks allowed 426 total yards, including 5.5 yards per play. Seattle, in stark contrast, gained just 180 total yards, with 3.9 yards per play.

As part of the Seahawks' dismal offensive performance, quarterback Geno Smith – the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year – threw for a measly 112 yards, and recorded a QBR of only 44.4.

Smith & Co. will now look to bounce back against Detroit on Sunday, in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd at Ford Field. It'll be a tall task for the Seahawks, which currently are 5.5-point underdogs going into the Week 2 matchup.

Remember, they did take care of business against Dan Campbell's squad a season ago. They, in fact, beat the Lions in a Week 4 shootout at Ford Field, 48-45. In that contest, Smith completed 23-of-30 passes for an impressive 320 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Detroit veteran signal-caller Jared Goff threw for 378 yards and four scores in the loss.

Campbell & Co. also dropped a contest to Seattle in Campbell's first season on the job in Detroit. It was a late-season, 51-29 defeat at Lumen Field.

To no surprise, revenge is on the mind of Campbell's team headed into its matchup Sunday with the Seahawks.

"This team always presents problems," Campbell told reporters Monday. "It's been a thorn in our side for two years. We know what's going to be coming in here. We're going to assume the best out of them. They got after us pretty good last year, real good, and that's something we won't forget."

To me, the Lions have a terrific opportunity to continue their winning ways this weekend, especially with Seattle likely being without both of its starting offensive tackles – left tackle Charles Cross and right tackle Abraham Lucas – for the contest.

At this present juncture, I'll give Detroit a 70 percent chance to secure the Week 2 victory.
