Penei Sewell Is in Concussion Protocol
Detroit Lions right tackle Penei Sewell is in concussion protocol, head coach Dan Campbell announced Sunday.
The third-year coach said the earliest he can return to practice is Wednesday, meaning the team will conduct multiple practices without their talented offensive lineman.
Campbell added that the tackle is "doing well."
The third-year offensive lineman noted this week that the internal pressure he puts on himself is a driving and motivating force this season.
Part of the reason the offensive line is rated highly is the emergence of Sewell, who is already considered among the top lineman at his position.
Detroit Lions Roundtable: Training Camp Surprises
“When we talk about expectations and pressure, I feel like pressure is kind of from the interior,” Sewell explained to reporters earlier this week. “So if you put a lot on yourself, if you kind of feed yourself into that mindset, you’re going to kind of get overwhelmed, right? But if you come out here each and every day, like it’s the same game I played since I was 2 years old, or the same game since I was on the island, it’s just the same passion. So, all that pressure is what it is, but I’m going to come out here cause I love to do it.”
Notes
1.) Wide receiver Jameson Williams will return to practice after missing time with a leg injury. Sunday's practice is scheduled to be lighter, but having the young receiver back in action is an encouraging sign.
2.) Sunday's practice will be lighter, as Campbell called it a "jog-through" after two padded practices on Friday and Saturday.
