Lions Defensive Leaders Grade Poorly Against Packers
The Detroit Lions suffered their seventh straight Thanksgiving loss Thursday, falling 29-22 to the Green Bay Packers.
It served as a heavy disappointment for Lions fans, as optimism for the team has grown immensely given their 8-2 record coming into Thursday's game. Unfortunately, the team squandered an opportunity to snap their holiday losing skid.
The Lions drop to 8-3, now two games ahead of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North division. Detroit travels to New Orleans next week before heading to Chicago for a rematch with the Bears.
For the second time in three weeks, the Lions defense was held without a sack. Jordan Love, Green Bay's quarterback who had a completion percentage under 60 percent coming in, diced Detroit's secondary for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
The Lions' offense, meanwhile, was once again bit by the turnover bug. Quarterback Jared Goff turned the ball over three times for the second consecutive game as the Lions' turnover count mounted to seven over the last two weeks.
The Lions cut the Packers' lead to 23-14 early in the third quarter with a touchdown from David Montgomery. However, the Detroit's fate was nearly sealed when Green Bay turned a failed fake punt into a touchdown from Love to Christian Watson.
Detroit's late rally came up short, as a touchdown from Goff to Josh Reynolds was followed by a failed onside kick attempt.
