Predictions: Lions-Packers

The All Lions staff provides its predictions for the Lions' Week 4 contest with the Packers.

The Detroit Lions have an opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the NFC North division on Thursday night. After starting 2-1, they've established themselves as contenders for the division crown.

Now, the next step is to prove that the division is theirs for the taking by defeating Green Bay at Lambeau Field. They have momentum, having won at Lambeau to end the season in 2022.

After getting their mojo back on Sunday with a win over Atlanta, the defense feels ready to go on a roll. If the Lions play to their standing as a top-five run defense, forcing Jordan Love to throw will be advantageous.

Ultimately, I think Aaron Glenn rides the momentum of Sunday's win, and the short week keeps the Lions sharp on both sides of the ball. This game will be competitive throughout, before a late, long touchdown drive allows Detroit to pull away.

It won't be easy going into Lambeau Field and beating the Packers a fourth consecutive time. But, the Lions should have the upper hand Thursday night against Jordan Love and Green Bay.

And, the key to success for Detroit in this Week 4 matchup will likely be its bread and butter: Running the football and stopping the run.

Headed into this NFC North divisional clash, the Lions have allowed the fifth-fewest total rushing yards (216) and the fifth-fewest yards per carry (3.2). And, they've also amassed the 11th-most yards on the ground (335).

It should set Detroit up for an advantageous matchup against a Packers defense that has allowed the sixth-most rushing yards through three weeks (410).

In this Week 4 primetime contest, I believe the Lions will firmly establish the run, and limit the productivity of Green Bay's ground game. Plus, I believe Dan Campbell's team will wreak havoc against Love enough, in order to return to Detroit with a 3-1 record and sole ownership of first place in the NFC North.

This one has the potential to be the most entertaining game yet for Detroit, which is looking to make it four straight wins over its NFC North rival.

The Packers aren't as formidable as they once were, especially after losing longtime QB Aaron Rodgers in the offseason.

The Lions are clearly on the rise in this matchup, especially by comparing quarterbacks alone. That, coupled with a number of injuries on the Packers' roster, including to the likes of Christian Watson, Jaire Alexander and Aaron Jones, provides a clear advantage for Detroit.

The defense will need to be sharp again, but assuming it is, I predict that the Lions get the job done and move to 3-1 on the year.

The Lions' defense has a significant amount of momentum, especially after recording seven sacks against the Atlanta Falcons.

Jordan Love is inexperienced and will be tested for the first time under the bright lights and in the national spotlight. Detroit's defense must work to make it a long evening for Aaron Rodgers' replacement.

Detroit's offense has the potential to rebound this week, especially on the ground.

With Taylor Decker and David Montgomery likely not returning in Week 4 , Jared Goff must be protected by the offensive line. Last week, Detroit's veteran signal-caller took far too many hits.

Lambeau Field has been kind to the Lions recently, and will continue to provide good memories on Thursday Night Football.
