Predictions: Seahawks-Lions

Will Detroit improve their record to 2-0?

The Lions' fanbase is ready to support the team at Ford Field for the home opener. Defeating the Chiefs has given the roster and its supporters even more belief that the 2023 season can be special.

Against the Seahawks, Detroit's offense will look to clean up a myriad of mistakes made in Week 1. With running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs playing at home, I expect the offense to score more than 14 points and to take more chances deep. While many believe the game could be a blowout, I think the Seahawks are a formidable opponent.

Pete Carroll's squad can rush the football, and it features wide receivers who can provide a challenge to defensive backs. Detroit is also dealing with injuries of its own, which will keep the game close all the way into the fourth quarter.

The defense again steps up, and keeps the Seahawks from getting into the end zone all that much.

The Lions have a huge opportunity in Week 2. After upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs, Dan Campbell’s team can prove it is a legitimate championship contender with a win over another playoff team last season in Seattle.

The Seahawks boast a challenge with their downhill run game and vertical passing game. The Lions’ cornerbacks will be tested by DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, while Kenneth Walker will strain the defense in the run game.

Ultimately, the Lions’ offense will be the difference-maker. Jared Goff and company should continue rolling in front of a raucous home crowd, while the defense musters up enough stops to get a win in the home opener.

On Sunday, the Lions will be seeking to avenge losses in back-to-back years to Pete Carroll and the Seahawks. In those two contests, they've allowed a combined 99 points, including 48 in a shootout loss to Seattle a season ago. However, that was before Dan Campbell's squad turned the corner, and morphed into a team capable of beating anybody, including the NFL's elite (i.e. Kansas City).

In this Week 2 tilt, I believe Detroit will receive strong performances from several of its key players, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs and EDGE Aidan Hutchinson. And, behind an electric Ford Field crowd, I see the Lions improving to 2-0, and notching just their sixth win in 18 all-time head-to-head matchups with the Seahawks.

Following an electrifying season-opening win over the Chiefs last Thursday, the Lions face off against the Seahawks at Ford Field Sunday.

This is definitely a grudge match for the Lions, which look to get revenge on the Seahawks for not only beating them at home last season, but also for bouncing them out of a playoff spot a year ago.

I expect the offense to come out firing on all cylinders. Look for guys like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery to be on the money.

On the other side of the ball, the defense will need to be sharp, as well. I want to see it contain DK Metcalf early, in order to avoid falling behind. I'm also curious to see how rookie Brian Branch performs, after securing a big, late-game interception last week against Kansas City.

Overall, Detroit runs away with this one, and improves to 2-0 on the 2023 season.
