Presence of Frank Ragnow Important for Lions' Offensive Line

Frank Ragnow's return to training camp important for Detroit Lions.

The return of Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow, who missed last week of practice at training camp due to the birth of his child, is imperative for the cohesion of the offensive line.

And against the Jaguars, rushing lanes were opened for David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, which had been more of a struggle against the Giants.

"Having him back Monday was great," Dan Campbell said before practice. "Because you can feel him when he’s out there. You can feel him, you can feel his presence -- the way he plays, I mean he’s a dude. He’s a dude. So, to get him out there, it’s good to have him. It'll be good to have him out here today. And so when you get him in there with those other guys, it’s like all the pieces fall right into place and it’s good to have him out there.

"It’s important for those guys to work together," Campbell continued. "They’re no different than the backend. You ask about communication and working together and understand where each other are at, it’s big for that O-line. Because they kind of grow together, and that’s how you build trust.”

Despite being highly touted, Detroit's starting offensive line has not played a significant amount of reps all together, whether in practice or during the regular season.

Ragnow, Taylor Decker, Jonah Jackson, Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Penei Sewell have the potential to excel on a weekly basis, if they all can stay on the field.

“I’m feeling pretty good, man. I know I slipped this off-season and said it’s (toe) inoperable," Ragnow said earlier at camp. "It kinda got blown out of the water. I’m feeling really good. Right now, I’m in a good space. Mentally, especially.”
