Lions on Raider Nation: "They're Wild"
It is unheard of for an NFL team to play six games in a row on the road.
Yet, the Oakland Raiders did just that.
They finally return home this Sunday, after a month and a half away from the Oakland Coliseum.
The Raiders, sitting at 3-4, will look to even their record in their Week 9 matchup with the Lions.
“It’s going to be rowdy. I know that,” Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said. “I think our fans miss us, and I think we miss them. We need a home game. We need to see each other, that’s for sure. We miss one another. I can’t wait to see our fans when I come running out the tunnel. There’s nothing like it.”
The fans of the Raiders are quite unique.
"Raider Nation" and especially those fans found in the "Black Hole" at the Oakland Coliseum are some of the rowdiest, loudest and most rabid fans in the NFL.
Several Lions were asked Friday about their memories of playing at the Oakland Coliseum and for their thoughts on playing in front of Raiders fans in the "Black Hole."
TE Jesse James
"They have a loyal fan base. Sad to see Oakland leave after having such a strong stay out there. That's the business. You feel the history, whenever you are there at the stadium. A great franchise (that) has done a great job over the years. Sad to see them go. Our fans have been loyal too and travel well. We had a tough loss, when I was there last (with the Steelers). We had a little hook and ladder to give us a chance to kick a field goal. The field goal hit our offensive lineman in the back. Tough loss."
RB J.D. McKissic
"I only played there in the preseason. The first time I played there it was very loud. They (Raiders fans) got after it. We won the game. Our defense was lights out. You could tell our defense controlled the crowd. I am excited to go play there. I know Ice Cube and Snoop Dog rock the Raiders hat."
WR Marvin Hall Jr.
"It means a lot. Getting to go back and see the family. I want to have fun. The Raiders were my team growing up, my favorite team. They're wild. The fans ... they are wild and electric. It is a great environment. I am focused on the Detroit Lions, and I just can't wait to play."
DE Trey Flowers
"Well, I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing it yet. This is going to be my first time. Obviously, you see videos and things like that. I know they are going to have a hostile crowd. It is going to be a good environment. A good football environment. They are definitely passionate. Their fan base stands behind their team. They have a lot of support. It is going to be interesting, and we are going to have fun with it."
TE T.J. Hockenson
"It is going to be a fun atmosphere. I think everywhere you go in the league, they have die-hard fans like that. Even here, we got die-hard fans. Going over there, they have a rep about them. They love their team. It is going to be fun to go there."
