Report: James Houston Has Fractured Ankle
The Detroit Lions, who have not recorded a single sack all season, will now be without James Houston for the foreseeable future, as the talented pass-rusher has reportedly suffered a fractured ankle.
According to NFL media, the injury could force Houston to be away from the team for the next six to eight weeks.
Drafted in the sixth-round last season, the former Jackson State linebacker burst onto the scene in front of a nationally televised audience.
In seven games, Houston recorded eight total sacks, earning the opportunity to work toward increased playing time this season.
Unfortunately, Detroit's defense has now suffered a significant loss early in the season.
"I think the rush -- we’ve got to stay true to the rush plan itself," Dan Campbell said, following Detroit's loss to the Seahawks. "One more time, just close the pocket in on him, alright don’t give him anywhere to go and somebody’s going to get one here. But we can’t rush high and let him run through uninvaded, and it’s just discipline one more time. That’s what we’ve got to do because the more we do that, then you’re covering all day long again.
"All in all – here’s what’s hard is, defensively, you look and you’re like, well, first drive of the game they go down and then there at the end and I get that, but all in all we played some pretty good defense," Campbell continued. "When you turn the ball over twice offensively where we did that’s tough and that bit us. We’re not good enough to turn the ball over. I know it was three but it was really two criticals, and win the game.”
