Penei Sewell Ranked No. 77 in PFF Top 101 NFL Players
The Detroit Lions' offensive line was able to live up to expectations in 2022.
Billed as one of the top units in the NFL, the starting linemen proved their toughness and ability to protect the quarterback.
"The fact that we got a 1,000-yard rusher, because that speaks volumes not only to him (Jamaal Williams), but the O-line and the 17 touchdowns. I mean, to surpass one of the great ones of all time, particularly one of the greats of all time and he happens to be here at Detroit and Barry (Sanders). That’s impressive," Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared, when asked what stat most impressed him last season. "But, that’s something they all can share. They’re all a part of that, the O-line, the tight ends, the receivers blocking downfield and of course him -- him doing what he does. I think it’s great. I think it’s impressive.”
One of the cornerstone pieces of Detroit's young roster is right tackle Penei Sewell.
Detroit general manager Brad Holmes was very excited when the team drafted the athletic lineman at No. 7 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
After the selection, Holmes emphatically slammed a nearby table, knowing he had likely selected a transcendent talent.
In its recent ranking of 101 NFL players, Pro Football Focus had Sewell ranked at No. 77.
"Detroit’s offense was cooking for much of the year, and Sewell was a big part of that success at right tackle," writes Sam Monson. "He allowed 28 total pressures over 17 games and was one of the better run blockers in the league. He even caught a game-clinching pass against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14."
