Sheila Hamp Can Envision Super Bowl Celebration

Can the Lions reach the Super Bowl in 2023?
In this story:

Detroit Lions owner Sheila Hamp knows the lows that her team has faced in years past.

As a result, the current optimism facing the team has come as a surprising relief from the struggles of years past.

The future is bright with the Lions' organization, many believe. Hamp and the team have faced an unprecedented level of optimism within the fanbase, as they prepare to embark on the 2023 campaign.

This has conjured up the visions of the Lions reaching the highest of heights — a Super Bowl championship.

"I have thought about it," Hamp said in an interview with Fox 2. "I really have thought about it. But, first things first. I really have thought about it. It would be the most wonderful thing, the city, our fans, my family. All together, holding that trophy up."

Shortly into her tenure, the Lions needed a reset. The organization finished the 2020 season with no general manager, no head coach and a quarterback -- Matthew Stafford -- wanting out.

As a result, Hamp and the Lions' brass was forced to start over. Fast forward two years, and the Lions' owner appears to have nailed the hire.

The ensuing journey led to the unlikely merging of forces between a Los Angeles Rams scout (Brad Holmes) and an assistant head coach in New Orleans (Dan Campbell). However, Hamp had a feeling that, upon completing their respective interviews, the duo would mesh in a symbiotic matter.

"When we found Brad and Dan, and all four of us agreed that these were our guys, that was something," Hamp explained. "We were hoping they would work well together, which of course, has worked out beautifully. But, it's a bit of an arranged marriage, but they do work well together and it's a joy to watch them. But, we did start from ground zero, and building a team's not linear."

The team wasn't always in this good of a position. Last year, it began the year 1-6 before storming back. The year prior, Campbell and Holmes' first season together, Detroit finished 3-13-1.

However, Hamp has remained firmly in the corner of those in charge. When the team started so poorly last season, she called an impromptu press conference defending her staff.

That defense was well-earned. Watching the two work together on a daily basis, the owner has witnessed their collaboration. That dynamic was precisely what she was hoping to achieve when the organization hired the duo prior to 2021.

"It seemed to me that the whole organization needed to somehow be on the same page for this to work. Brad and Dan are perfect examples of that, to watch them work together, not that they always agree, but they listen to each other," Hamp said. "They talk to each other. I think the combination together is really spectacular."
