Amon-Ra St. Brown Prefers Grass, But Satisfied with Turf Upgrade
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is satisfied with the new playing surface at Ford Field.
This offseason, the team upgraded the playing surface to the FieldTurf CORE system, which is widely considered as one of the top artificial surfaces available for NFL teams to utilize.
Speaking with reporters after practice Friday, the third-year wideout was asked about playing on the new surface against the Seahawks.
"I think it's good. I think it's fine. I would honestly prefer grass, but we're working on that," said St. Brown, via the team's website. "But the turf, it is what it is. I actually was looking up turf toe, I don't know if it's because of turf, but who knows? But yeah, it's definitely better than it was last year. But like I said, I would prefer grass."
Players have recently been outspoken regarding their desire to play on grass surfaces.

The outcry became louder again when New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the opening game against the Buffalo Bills.
"It's just more forgiving, more forgiving on their joints. The grass we have out here in practice is amazing," said St. Brown. "I love practicing on it. It's like I said, more forgiving on your joints. The turf is just either it's going to snatch you or it's not. So, yeah, grass is just more forgiving."
Lions owe fans quality performance
After losing the home opener, several members of the roster commented this week the team owes the fans a better outcome, especially given the quality support the fans gave the team against the Seahawks.
"I feel like we let them down last week, especially coming off that victory against Kansas City," said St. Brown. "Everyone was excited for that first home game. Fans were juiced up. We were juiced, but you know, we let them down.
"So, I'm excited to go back this week, back at home," St. Brown commented further. "Hopefully the fans show out like they did last week. But man, we honestly, we couldn't do without him. They're the best around. They were loud, supportive. I just hope it's the same as last week, because we got to make it up to them."
