3 Teams Which Could Pursue DJ Chark

Read more on the three teams not named the Lions that could sign wide receiver DJ Chark this offseason.
In this story:

Could DJ Chark be one and done in the Motor City? There's a chance, as the veteran wide receiver will be an unrestricted free agent this season.

He closed out the 2022 campaign better than he started it. He played in just three of the Lions' first nine games, and recorded a combined seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown in those contests.

However, over the team's final six games of the season, he was much more productive, and showcased better chemistry with Detroit signal-caller Jared Goff. In fact, he went over 90 receiving yards in three of those six games, including a 108-yard performance in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers.

Because of his solid finish to the '22 season, there's a chance that Lions general manager Brad Holmes brings the former Jaguars wideout back for the 2023 campaign. Yet, at this juncture, there's no guarantee of it happening.

With that said, here are three teams not named the Lions that Chark could end up signing with this offseason.

Baltimore Ravens

If you followed the Ravens even a little bit during the 2022 season, you would know that they didn't have a very productive passing attack, even when Lamar Jackson was healthy. In fact, Baltimore threw for just 3,040 yards this past season, the fifth-lowest mark in the league.

And, while Jackson gets some of the blame for such being the case, he shouldn't shoulder the majority of it. Instead, the criticism should largely be directed toward the Ravens' lackluster wide receivers room.

Although Chark suited up for just 11 games in 2022 due to injury, his 502 receiving yards would've ranked No. 1 among Baltimore's wideouts this past year.

The only Ravens player that surpassed Chark in reception yards during the past season was a non-wide receiver: Tight end Mark Andrews. Andrews ended up closing out the campaign with 847 receiving yards.

Jackson's future in Baltimore is presently in limbo. But, whether he or someone else is the starter under center in 2023, it's a given that Chark would be a clear-cut upgrade for the team's receiving corps.

New York Giants

Just like the Ravens, the Giants don't possess the most fearsome receivers unit.

By far, New York's best receiver is Darius Slayton, who finished with a team-high 724 reception yards in 2022.

Fellow Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard also has just one year remaining on his contract, and has played in a total of just 10 games the past two seasons.

If the Giants were to ink the veteran Chark to a contract, he'd easily be one of the team's top two wideouts headed into the 2023 season. And, maybe he'd help Daniel Jones and New York's offense open up the deep passing game.

In my opinion, Chark, at just 26 years old, would be worth a two-year investment from the "G-Men."

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings don't have as big of a void at wideout as the two teams above. However, it never hurts to steal a player from your division rival, as Minnesota would be if it acquired Chark.

Minnesota is already equipped with several capable pass-catchers, such as All-Pro Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, K.J. Osborn and former Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson.

However, Thielen isn't getting any younger, as he'll be 32 entering the 2023 campaign.

So, at the very least, Chark would provide some solid depth to Minnesota's receivers room. And, if he were to stay healthy for the entirety of the upcoming season, he could challenge Thielen and Osborn for the No. 2 spot on the team's receivers depth chart.

Although the Vikings don't have a major need at the position, I think it'd be worth their while to look into signing Chark this offseason.
