Tracking Lions' 2024 Draft Picks
The 2024 NFL Draft has the potential to be a momentous occasion for the Detroit Lions.
For starters, it will be the first time the city of Detroit has hosted the event. The draft is sure to attract plenty of visitors to bask in one of the premier events of the NFL offseason.
Additionally, the Lions have generated plenty of positive momentum with a 6-2 start to the campaign. Should they live up to their high expectations and meet their lofty goals, the draft itself could turn into a celebration of Detroit's season amongst its fans.
Here's a look at where each of the Lions' 2024 NFL Draft selections stand after nine weeks.
First round: No. 29 overall
Currently, the Lions hold the second-best record in the NFL. As a result, they would have the second-lowest first round selection behind only Philadelphia.
Playoff teams are slotted based on which round they fall in, beginning with the Wild Card losers in the No. 19 overall pick. How each is ranked goes based on record, hence why the Lions are currently placed at No. 29 overall.
If Detroit were to hold this pick at season's end, it would mean they lost in the NFC Championship game.
Second round: No. 61 overall
This selection corresponds with the first round pick, as Detroit has not added any capital in this round. General manager Brad Holmes had two picks in the second round last year, choosing starters Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch.
Third round: No. 81 and No. 92 overall
The No. 81 overall pick comes from Minnesota as part of the T.J. Hockenson trade. The No. 92 overall choice is another corresponding selection that will reflect Detroit's standing at the end of the season.
Fourth round: No current selections
In that Hockenson trade, Detroit sent a conditional pick to the Vikings that became a fourth-rounder. As a result, the Lions currently do not have a selection in this round.
Fifth round: No. 165 overall
Sixth round: No. 206 overall
Seventh round: No. 248 overall
Currently, the Lions are not slotted to receive any compensatory selections. As a result, each of their last three rounds feature just one selection that will reflect where they finish in the standings.
