What They're Saying: Jack Campbell Reacts to First NFL Game, Reveals What He Can Improve
Here is a sample of what was said in the locker room, immediately following Detroit's 21-16 victory at Ford Field against the Giants.
Nate Sudfeld
On attempts to get the football to Jameson Williams: "I was just trying to play good football, and Jameson, yeah, was trying to give him opportunities. He's such a great player, just trying to get him involved. The sky's the limit for him, and we're just continuing to get on the same page."
On how much better he felt as the game went on: "I felt great the whole time. I felt like I was seeing it really well. Wink Martindale does a really good job on defense, really mixing it up, blitzing all the time, all types of pressures and different coverages. And so, I felt like I was seeing it well, and I loved what Ben was calling, Just trying to play fast and be aggressive and keep playing. I felt like I was seeing it well."
Chase Cota
On connection with Nate Sudfeld: "I've gotten a decent amount of reps with him, but like it's always kind of been -- we've, we're just close, like off the field. Like this summer, we threw together in Bend, Oregon, because I'm from there. He spends a lot of time there. Just having that chemistry, just off the field, I don't know, it translated on the field today. And then, I know he has a lot of trust in me whenever we are in together. So, it just felt good that we got to click a few times."

Jack Campbell
On what he can improve on after the Giants game: "I feel like today I was playing pretty aggressive in the run game. So, just kind of being patient in that aspect. But also, just cleaning up some communication stuff. Cleaning up some technique stuff. And, that's something I'm always going to work on, especially for me, my pad level. But also, just stepping out there and as a rookie, just having confidence in yourself and playing play in and play out. And, that's what I'm kind of focusing on right now."
On putting on NFL uniform and playing for the first time as a member of the Lions: "It's a surreal feeling. I was literally just talking to my family the other day about that. I've always dreamt of being in this position, and now it's here. And, to get the first one under my belt, I think I was a little, a tiny bit nervous coming into this. But, now, I've got the first one. Now, I'm just ready to roll. Just keep improving week in and week out."
Maurice Alexander
On the spin moves during his kick return for a touchdown: "It was more so I seen the way that the gunners were coming, so I knew where I had to be at to get away from them. And, then once I caught the ball, I got downhill, made one move, made a spin move, then another spin move. And, I just ran to daylight."
On celebrating with his teammates: "Definitely feels good. It's just a little crazy, because like all week, I was telling them like, 'I'm going to get a touchdown. I'm going to return the touchdown.' So, like when it happened, they already knew, since we talked about it. So, they were just excited."
Lomas Brown
On being named to the Pride of the Lions: "I couldn't speak. I was just speechless. It's an honor to go up there with some of the greats that have ever played this game. And, for me to get my name immortalized up there, it's just unbelievable. So, I really appreciate this honor. And, you know, I'm going to cherish it. I really am."
